| Most of the people who might be interested in looking at my blurb probably
already know this, but here goes: I graduated from OU in ’60 and got my Masters Degree in Library Science
in ’61. Sharon and I were roommates in an apartment on Boyd St. while she finished her 5-yr program until
she moved to Seattle. I stayed in Norman and worked as the Social Sciences Librarian (14 academic departments)
at OU for two years. In ’63, a month after his graduation from the OU Law School, I married Thad Carver . I
credit or blame Bob and Glenda Clearwater for our meeting and falling in love in ’58. We moved to Kansas City after our wedding at the First Unitarian Church in Oklahoma City and a month long 5000 miles driving honeymoon throughout the northern states and Canada. We still love driving trips and this past month we finally drove down through the center of Mississippi to New Orleans, leaving Alaska as the only state in the union we have not seen yet . We drive to Santa Fe and Los Angeles most frequently these days because of our sons and grandkids, but we have driven to Maine, Conn, NY, D.C., etc. Chicago is just a hop and a skip up the road. . After working at Kansas City Public Library a couple of years, I was forced to retire when I got pregnant with Jon Michael Carver (How times have changed, but I was officially a School Board employee and in those days could not “show”). Jon was born in May of ’65. 20 months later I had Thomas Andrew Carver (January of ’67) and after a 5 year hiatus, Amy Elizabeth was born (May of ’72). I didn’t work for pay for almost 14 years while heading almost every woman’s organization in St. Joseph, MO, where Thad’s work as a Trust Officer took us in the fall of ’67. I did a lot of volunteer work in several libraries and served two stints as President of the Library Board. . By 1984, we were back in Kansas City and Thad was determined we would be on the Kansas side of the state line, where we have lived for the last 25 years (about 12 blocks West of Missouri. Our kids have been out of the nest for years. Thad retired in 1995 and I retired in ’97 after 14 years as a Biomedical Librarian at the Univ. of KS Med School (7 minutes away in KCKS.) We’re both still vertical as his dad used to say, but that doesn’t seem as funny as it once did. We know we must grab every bit of gusto we can and we love our “old” friends. So, write, phone, email and come see us… or invite us to come see you. We just might get in our car and drive your way. . Look me up on FaceBook to see lots of current pix, especially those of our fabulous grand kids. |
